North Pennines Fell and Trail Routes
Quite a few fell races, associated with DFR, go on in Hamsterley Forest and also the odd trail race such as the first Wild Race. The longest Wild Race of the series is over on the other side of the Pennines, near Ravenstonedale. Also, there's a popular fell race that's very suitable for beginners to have a go at, above Stanhope, run by the Saltwell Harriers.
