Weekly Round-up

Lots of running action this week by the Elvet Striders all over the globe!

This week saw the first of the GP Endurance race at Brampton to Carlisle 10 mile road race. All the runners battled the relentless headwind and floods, a distance PB for both Jill Young and Caitlin Mooney and many more I suspect. First Male Strider was Stephen Jackson with a speedy time of 58.56 and first Lady was Elaine Bisson finishing in 1.10.39. The ladies (Elaine B, Louise W and Fiona S) also managed to pick up the 3rd team prize and 2nd vets team prize, with Fiona Shenton also 1st in her age category, this seems to be getting a tradition ladies, well done.

Hats off to Helen Allen who set herself another challenge in the sunset to sunrise challenge and managed a lap race in the dark along with the bats and owls with an impressive distance of 39.39 miles, there is no stopping Helen now in her Ultras!

Paul Evans tells me of his filthy race with descents semi-controlled by his rear at the Tour of Pendle, this was cut short to a 14 mile instead of a 17 mile race due to bad weather. He finished in a respectable position of 82 out of 409 runners.

Further south Simon Gardiner had a fantastic run at the Leeds Abbey Dash 10km road race gaining him yet another PB of 36.22, and managed celebrate his achievement in style after with a bottle of champagne! Closer to home Alison Heslop and Paul Swinburne PB'd at parkrun with times of 30.03 and 19.50 respectively. Our international parkrun strider was Conrad who ran around Hamilton Island Australia making us all jealous of his location.

Neil Sleeman enjoyed a training holiday at club la Santa Lanzarote competing in 5km, half marathon and triathlon in successive days. In Valencia John Hutchinson, Kathryn Sygrove and Jackie McKenna tackled the marathon in temperatures of 25 degrees in the shade. John finishing in an amazing time of 3.38, and the ladies in 4.20. Great running by all.

Lots of running options this Wednesday ...

If anyone has any other offers please let me know, see you all Wednesday.
